Audio Response Unit
Also known as an ARU. A device that provides synthesized voice responses to Dual-Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF) signaling input by processing calls, based on:

The call-originator input.

Information received from a host database.

Information in the incoming call, such as the time of day.
Important
ARUs are used to increase the number of calls that are handled and to provide consistent quality in information retrieval.
