Preparing for your Web Services and Applications migration

Before you migrate to a newer version of Web Services and Applications, review the following considerations and recommendations for how to prepare for a migration.

How do I preserve my data through the migration?

We recommend that you backup Cassandra data before a migration. Cassandra data is kept in place during a migration, therefore, you don't need to perform any special action to keep the data through a migration. A data backup is required in the event of a failed migration, because you will need to rollback to the previous version. For this reason, we recommend taking a Cassandra snapshot before you start the migration.

Instructions how to take a snapshot depends on which Cassandra version is in use and can be obtained here:

Do I need to back up customizations before a migration?

You don't need to perform create a backup of your customizations before a migration. Migration from 8.5.2.09 includes a transition to embedded Jetty. This creates a new set configuration files; therefore existing customizations for 8.5.2.09 are maintained. The GWS service must be configured from scratch. For more information, see transition to embedded Jetty.
